Critical Collective, Youth for Palestine, the Institute of Social Studies proudly present:
Norman Finkestein: “Israel and Palestine – Overcoming the Impasse”
Norman Finkelstein (born December 8, 1953) is an American political scientist, activist, professor and author. His primary fields of research are the Israeli–Palestinian conflict and the politics of the Holocaust, an interest motivated by the experiences of his parents who were Jewish Holocaust survivors.
In 2007, after a highly publicized row between Finkelstein and a notable opponent of his, Alan Dershowitz, Finkelstein’s tenure bid at DePaul was denied. Since then, Mr. Finkelstein has been touring the world giving talks to the general public about the topic of Israel and Palestine.
Norman finkelstein is an advocate of the two-state solution to the Palestinian/Israeli dilemma. He has also expressed strong beliefs about the Boycott Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) movement. In addition, in this talk, Mr. Finkelstein will be drawing parallels between the Jewish holocaust, which his parents and family endured, and the current situation in Palestine.
Following a talk, Mr. Finkelstein will engage the audience in a moderated debate.
Join us for a stimulating experience and to take part in a spirited and critical debate about the Israeli and Palestinian conflict!
The event will take place in Aula B of the Institute of Social Studies (ISS –http://www.iss.nl/ – located at Kortenaerkade 12, The Hague, NL) on February 8th, at 18:00.

The Queens’ University Belfast Politics Society in conjunction with the Queens’ University Palestine Solidarity Society is proud to announce the upcoming United Kingdom Tour for Professor Norman G. Finkelstein.
Professor Finkelstein is a controversial yet prolific academic in the field of international law focussing on the area of Israel – Palestine. He is one of todays most noted academics, having written several books on the matter which have won him a great deal of support and criticism resulting in Finkelstein being coined an American radical.
Finkelstein will be touring the UK and Northern Ireland between the 6th and 11th of February 2012 delivering lectures on Solving the Israel Palestine conflict looking specifically at international law and Human rights. He will be calling at universities at Edinburgh, Glasgow, London and Exeter.
In his event to be held at Queens’ Belfast the organiser is hoping to reach out to a wider range of students and lecturers from varying communities and political backgrounds to encourage vigorous and stimulating interactive debate amongst those who have an interest in the topic.
During his last United Kingdom tour in November Finkelstein spoke on similar topics where he drew in large crowds both agreeing and disagreeing with his positions.
Controversial is a word that must be used to describe him as a character that has focused a great deal of his research on topics that are highly contentious perhaps much more so than the Israel-Palestine conflict.
