Palestinian chief negotiator, Saeb Erekat, has said that statements made by Israeli former minister of foreign affairs, Avigdor Lieberman, “constitute a dangerous incitement against the Palestinian Authority’s president, Mahmoud Abbas and convey a deep desire to get rid of him”.Lieberman reiterated his view, saying that Abbas is not a partner for peace and ruled out any chance of current negotiations leading to a permanent peace settlement with the Palestinians.
Erekat warned, in a press statement, that if “Israel’s destructive approach continued with a constant change of facts on the ground and settlement construction, it would lead to negotiations being halted.”
Erekat denied previous press leaks claiming that Palestinian-Israeli negotiations have arrived at a dead end, because Israel insists on controlling the border with Jordan, saying the leaks were unfounded.
