When Daphne Guinness embarked on her passionate love affair with Bernard-Henri Lévy, there was only one obstacle: the dashing philosopher was still married to his third wife, Arielle Dombasle, an actress and singer.

Having tolerated this ménage à trois for the past five years, Dombasle, 60, has finally put her foot down: Guinness tells Mandrake that Lévy is no longer good for her.

“I know a lot of people still think we are a couple but I am single,” the 45-year-old brewing heiress confirms. “Bernard and I haven’t been together for some time now.”

Guinness, who is the daughter of Lord Moyne and granddaughter of the late Diana Mitford, began her romance with Lévy, 64, in Manhattan in the absence of his wife. The narcissistic Frenchman’s philosophy is said to be “God is dead, but my hair is perfect”.

When a New York newspaper rang his hotel room, Guinness answered the telephone, stammering: “Oh, crikey. I don’t know what to say.”
