2018 Midterm Explainer: Norman Finkelstein on Antisemitism as a Weapon of Mass Deflection

Mon, Oct 22 2018    7:30 pm – 9:00 pm    Central Library, Dweck Center

From Jeremy Corbyn in the United Kingdom to Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez in New York, candidates challenging pro-business, pro-interventionist politics are being accused of anti-semitism. Norman Finkelstein, who has written extensively on the misuse and abuse of antisemitism, will assess the validity of this allegation, what’s behind it, and what to expect as insurgent candidacies gain momentum.

Norman  Finkelstein received his doctorate in political theory in 1988 from the Princeton University Politics Department. He taught for two decades in the CUNY system, NYU and DePaul University (in Chicago). He has lectured on a broad range of subjects, and has written ten books that have been translated into more than 50 foreign editions. Finkelstein’s main fields of research and teaching are political theory, international law, and the Israel-Palestine conflict.
