Friends-

I have a favor to ask of you.

Bi’lin is a small town in the West Bank that has an apartheid wall running right through it. The wall in that specific geographic location has been deemed illegal by the Israeli high courts, yet they refuse to take it down and continue to send members of the IDF to not only guard it, but terrorize the residents of that community. Bi’lin’s residents hold nonviolent protests every Friday against the wall, and videotape them each week in order to show the world the harsh treatment they endure under occupation.

Part of this harsh treatment includes breaking their videocameras. As of last week, their last camera was broken and they have none.

Delegates from the Interfaith Peace Builders have volunteered $1440 to buy them a new camera, but that amount is a little over $1000 short of the $3K needed. Any money you could donate to these kind people would be greatly appreciated. Give me an estimate and I’ll pass it along to shakeel, who is CC:ed and is actually organizing this.

Below is the request from Iyad Burnat.

Love,

Nancy

Subject: [july 09] Fwd: from Iyad Burnat -Bilin … URGENT response requested
To: delegation <july09@lists.riseup.net>, may08@lists.riseup.net

Friends: A while back we’d discussed to form “Friends of Bilin – USA” (FOBUSA) … here’s an echo to our heart’s call. I’m sure you all would like to paricipate in some fashion. Although I’ve replied him but I’ll follow up on phone & get details sorted out, such as the type of camera, supplies, whether he prefers to buy it there locally or ???
In the interim, if you like to contribute to this project – plz advise with a dollar amount of your contribution ONLY at this time. This will help me determine if I need to go outside to seek support or if our group’s support is sufficient. In the next day or two I’ll figure out the other logistics & keep you abreast.
Most warmly.
shakeel.

Walaykum Assalam Akhi Kareem Abu Magd: Good to hear from you & of course we all keep an eye out of what’s happening in Bil’in and our hearts go out to you & family and the community of Bil’in.
Getting you a camera is the least we can do to support the work for justice. Please advise if you prefer us to send you the money or buy a camera from here & send that out to you.
I will be sharing your email with friends of our last delegation and I’m sure everyone will be happy to contribute toward the camera. But please know that doesn’t matter what we WILL get you a camera, InshaAllah. Call me anytime at your convenience or I’ll call you tonight to discuss further.
In solidarity.
